Indian Mound Neighborhood Association Meeting Minutes from July 16, 2018.

  • Introductions
  • Treasurers report – Donna Miller-Brown
    • Deposit $2480 from NRF
    • deductions for three block parties (~$300)
  • Mary Cyr – NEAT
    • Introducing Christina Gonzalez, new AmericaCorps VISTA
      • Working on capacity building, community engagement
      • Economic engagement project
    • Will hire a second VISTA this year
  • National Night Out – Donna Miller-Brown
    • Aug. 7, 6-9 p.m.
    • North side of Budd Park, across from Holy Cross
    • Volunteers needed: try to recruit neighbors
    • Set-up, tear-down, greeters, trash duty, etc.
    • If willing to have sign in your yard, let Donna or Amanda know.
    • Contact Donna Miller-Brown XYZ or Amanda Wilson at XYZ
    • Partner resources include public library, fire trucks, voter registration, Jerusalem Farm with home improvement and code abatement resources.
    • Free food!
  • KCPD – Officer Greg Smith and Community Social Worker Trena Miller
    • Trena comes from Truman Medical Center
    • She will go on calls, homeless camps, to help with social services. Not necessarily all crime related.

    • Shelter in Place information
    • Crime Stoppers reward increased to $10,000
    • Care Track – Bracelets for children with austim.
    • Information on how to better secure homes and automobiles
      • Increase in automobiles because people leaving cars running
    • Social Work Program
    • Information on what to give to 911 when calling in
  • Bobbi Jo Reed – Healing House
    • Faith-based housing for people with substance abuse issues
    • Just purchased former Jehovah’s Witness building at St. John and Elmwood/Cypress.
    • Offering computer access and training, phone line access, GED classes, employment helping
    • Helping with state targeted response to opioid epidemic
    • Doing trainings on Narcan, July 28 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., 4505 St. John.
    • Includes free Narcan to those who have been trained.
    • Started construction on new Elmwood site.
  • Bryan Stalder, General Information
    • Vote on Aug. 7 – Residental Rental Inspection Program question; Missouri Prop A.
    • PIAC – Indian Mound Markers along Independence Ave made of Thacher stone. Working on getting insurance now.
    • Once we have insurance, neighborhood can hire residents to mow vacant Land Bank lots.
    • CID working on mural project. Painting 4 or 5 murals by EOY. Contact Independence Ave. CID if interested.
  • Indian Mound Officer Election
    • Dave Norton motions for all nominations to go forward
      • Manny Abarca – Executive Vice President
      • Beth Beavers – Secretary
    • Chris Morales seconds
    • Stefan McBee interested in Administrative Vice President position, but just returned from being deployed so would like 50% meeting requirement waived
    • Bryan mentions if office and miss two meetings, then required to step down from position
    • Have to be member of association, paid in good standing to run
    • Another person, unable to make meeting tonight, is also interested but new.
    • Stalder makes motion for special election next month.
