Indian Mound Neighborhood Association Meeting Minutes from September 17, 2018.

  • Amanda Barnhart, KC Public Library
    • New head librarian
    • 6 levy increase on ballot will benefit the libraries
    • Building is 30 years old
    • Need new HVAC
    • Want to move refugee services to this branch
    • W/o levy may have to shorten hours and
    • Focus group Oct. 3, 6:30 p.m., led by architects, about what residents want in renovations
      • If can’t make it, there’s an online survey

    • Department trying to hire 10 additional officers. They will be put downtown
    • Call if you have problems
    • Abandoned vehicles – 311 – 20-30 come in per day
      • Try to get done within 2-3 days; can take up to 10
    • If have problems with illegally parked vehicles, contact Rita Garcia
    • Report abandoned vehicle via 311, which makes sure officer

    • Semis, boats – two hour limit on residential street

    • Crime remaining same month-over-month
    • Body found at 6801 St. John last month; female victim
    • Problem houses:
      • 408 N. Brighton
      • 117 N. Topping
      • 302 N. Chelsea
    • If you have problem properties, let Office Smith know but also file 311 complaints or call it in.
    • Oct. 6 – East Patrol event 12-4. Hot dogs, chips, snow cones, games, etc.
    • October is turn your lights on month for crime prevention
    • House fire on 436 N. Bellaire
    • Resident requesting traffic cop to sit at Gate 4 or speed bumps on Gladstone
    • Park Rangers coming soon – PD who police just parks.

    • 100 N. Van Brunt – AHA case has been completed and deed transferred.
    • 334 Wheeling – temporary possession, under rehab
    • 5510 Saida – AHA case; owner owns multiple properties so trying to get those all cleaned up
    • 138 Belmont – out of state owner, nephew has been cleaning up. Hoping to sell to owner-occupier.
    • 5512 Thompson – helping new owners reduce tax penalties
    • 321 N. Wheeling – likely AHA
      • Abandoned, looked like junkyard
      • May have been purchased at tax sale
      • Posted house (lack of essential services) – call police if you see anyone on the property.
    • 5800 Thompson – AHA case filed
    • 328 Lawndale – AHA case filed
    • 138 Bellaire – hoping it will be demo’d in the next 30-90 days
    • Legal Aid wants to work as resource to help ALL owners
    • Clear Titles are an issue – beneficiary deed clinics. Doesn’t replace will but nice provision.
      • Brandon will present that next month.
