Indian Mound Neighborhood Association Meeting Minutes from May 18, 2020.

Dr. Zink, Chief Medical Officer at Samuel L. Rodgers

  • Signs and symptoms – COVID-19 Signs/Symptoms
    • 2-14 days to show signs after
      • Tricky because symptoms are varied:
      • Common:
      • Sometimes: Nausea, vomit, diarrhea
      • Mild to severe
        • Older adults (65+ according to CDC)
        • Anyone with underlying medical
          • Decreased immune system, or lung issues
        • When to go to the ER/doctor?

          • Trouble breathing, shortness of breath, “elephant on chest”
          • New symptoms than before.
        • Stop the Spread
          • Biggest thing: Wash your hands often.
            • After touching surfaces
          • Avoid close contact (social distancing) – 6 ft. apart
          • Wear a cloth face cover
            • Research N95 and surgical masks to medical professionals
          • Cover coughs and sneezes with tissue
            • Cough into elbow/”cough pocket”
          • Clean and disinfect
            • Check CDC on what is best

            • Purchased tent early, which allows drive-thru testing
              • By appointment only – call 816-889-4795
            • Partnership with health department
              • Testing Tuesdays and Thursdays for next 12 weeks
              • Partnerships with other groups as well (Swope). Brings access to community
            • At location, triage location to see symptoms, and then quarantine those with symptoms
              • Get results within 48 hours
            • Implemented telehealth

            • Trying to get services to as many people as possible.
            • Offer many services, all ages
              • Clothe, feed patients – if can’t help find resources to do so.

            • Testing will increase

            • Move too soon in pandemic, will get second wave or spike that is worse than first time around. Dr. Zink says be careful. Wear mask, practice social distancing.

IMNA has purchased masks from local craftspeople. We will distribute those free of charge to Indian Mound residents. Please contact imna@indianmoundneighborhood.org if you live in Indian Mound and need masks for yourself or your family. (We have both adult and children’s sizes!)

KCPD

  • We’ve been trying to get updates but they’re not responding.
  • Crime committee being reworked, including crime groups. If have questions or issues – contact Patricia Hernandez phernandez586@gmail.com.
